To equip God’s people for works of
Service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until
we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the
Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure
of the fullness of Christ.” (Eph. 4: 12-13, NIV).
The
Church is a body made up of many different members. Christ
is the Head of the body but each member has a role and a function
to perform. As Christians we are called to be God’s
new society and to be the salt of the earth and light of the
world.
gggICLV’s
Logo and philosophy
Our Logo
shows a cross encircled by three concentric circles. Through
the cross, we try to signify that Jesus Christ, crucified
and risen be at the center and starting point of a Christian’s
life. But just as a stone thrown into a pond causes ripples
to radiate outwards, even so the natural process in the life
of a committed Christian ought to be outward growth. So, the
concentric circles of our logo represent the growth of the
individual in hi/her personal life, leading into growth in
relationships and responsibilities in the local Church, and
then onward and outward into serving in, and influencing society.
GGGBackground,
Rationale and Vision of ICLV
The ministry of ICLV was initiated
by one who had previously been working with the Scripture
Union and has seen many young people come to the Lord. After
helping these young people for sometime, he realized that
there was need to give them not
only guidance for their spiritual growth, but also direction
for their careers. He was thus inspired with a vision to start
a training/equipping ministry for these new Christians to
help them grow into wholesome maturity in Christ and reach
their full potential in their God ordained professions and
thus live for His glory.
The
Ministry of ICLV was then started in 1983 to help people identify
their own God given gifts and talents, to develop them and
utilize them in the best way within the body of Christ: The
church. Ministry is not confined to the clergy or those in
fulltime Christian Service but must include the whole Church.
Doctrinal
basis of ICLV
The
Institute for Christian Life and Vocation is committed to
the Fundamental truths of historic, Biblical Christianity
including:-
a)
The existence of One, eternal God, Creator and Lord of the
universe, who in the unity of the Father, the Son and the
Holy Spirit, both governs all things according to His will
and is accomplishing his purpose in the world and in the Church.
b)
The inspiration of the Holy Scriptures in its entirety by
god’s Spirit through human authors and their revelation
f God’s truth to humanity. They are therefore entirely
trustworthy authoritative and relevant in all matters of belief
and conduct.
c)
The intrinsic value of all human beings, because they are
created in God’s image, with gifts, talents and abilities
from God which enable them to act as stewards of the earth
and all its resources and potential by means of all kinds
of God-ordained works, vocations, professions and occupations.
d)
The sinfulness and guilt of human beings since the fall which
has rendered them subject to God’s wrath and condemnation
and has resulted in their alienation from his life, suppression
of his truth, hostility to his laws.
e)
Salvation from all guilt, penalty and all other consequences
of sin solely through the work of Jesus Christ – His
perfect obedience, substitutionary death, bodily resurrection
and exaltation as Lord. He alone is truly God and truly man
and the only mediator between God and man. There is salvation
through no other person, creed, process or power. Each sinner
is justified before God and reconciled to Him only by his
grace appropriated by faith in Jesus Christ alone.
f)
The necessity of the work of the Holy Spirit for the individual’s
new birth and growth to maturity and for the Church’s
constant renewal in truth, wisdom, faith, holiness, love,
power and mission.
g)
The one, holy, universal and apostolic church to which all
true believers belong. The Church’s calling is to worship
and serve God in the world through all God-ordained vocations/professions,
to proclaim and defend his truth, exhibit his character, and
to demonstrate the reality of his new order (His kingdom)
by Christ like living, the community of love and its quest
for righteousness and justice.
h)
The personal and visible return of the Lord Jesus Christ to
raise the dead and to bring salvation and judgment to final
completion. God will establish his kingdom when he creates
new heaven and new earth from which evil and evildoers, suffering
and death will be excluded, and in which he will be glorified
for ever.
