The Peril of Forgetfulness - One Lesson from the Delhi HC Terror Strike! - Duke Jeyaraj
At 10:15 am on September 7th, 2011, there was a blast triggered by terrorists outside gate no. 5 of the Delhi High Court. It left 11 dead and 91 injured. Amandeep Singh Jolly forgot to carry his lawyer's robe to court on this wicked wednesday. The slip cost him his life. Without the robe, the 21-year-old, interning with an HC advocate, had to stand in the queue to get an entry slip. That's when the blast occured. It was hours of a dreadful wait for Amanpreet's father, Manmohan Singh outside RML's operation before he was called to identify his son's body (The Times of India, Sept 8, 2011).
'THE NEWS OF THE WORLD' IS NOW DEAD BUT GOD'S 'GOODNEWS TO THE WORLD' LIVES FOREVER - Duke Jeyaraj
This is what I read in a leading news magazine: “On Sunday, 10 July, the News of the World, a 168-year-old British newspaper, published its 8,674th and last edition. To its seven million-plus readers, the paper admitted it had lost its way, an uncharacteristic understatement for a tabloid famous for its love of the lurid. The end was sudden and singularly graceless, the paper collapsing under mounting proof of the unsavoury and illeagal extremes to which it went to gather salacious gossip on which it thrived, on which, indeed, it became what some maintain was the most widely read newspaper in the English language. For years News of the World, had been hacking into mobile phones, stealing pin codes that enabled it to listen to the voice mail of people central to the paper’s piquant mix of sex, celebrity, sport, royals and crime. The tabloid hacked into the phone of Milly Dowler, a 13-year-old schoolgirl who was kidnapped and murdered nine years ago. News of the World had not only listened to the messages on her phone but deleted some when her inbox was full so that the new messages could be left that their journalists could listen in on. The covert interference (falsely) gave hope to the Dowler family, who naturally assumed it was Milly deleting the messages. Her body was discovered months later” ( From the article, “Old and Best Dead, “ by Shougat Dasgupta, Open, 25 July, 2011, page 30-31).
THE FOOLISH CONTRACDICTION AT THAT CAME AT THE FAG END OF ONE OF THE FINEST EVER SPEECHES
Duke Jeyaraj on the Sangakarra Cowdrey Lecture 2011
"I am Tamil, Sinhalese, Muslim and Burgher. I am a Buddhist, a Hindu, a follower of Islam and Christianity. I am today, and always, proudly Sri Lankan."
Hell-talk: Actress Kajal Agrawal n Jesus - Duke Jeyaraj
The Hyderabad Times, quoted actress Kajal Agrawal saying this the other day: "What the hell is happening?" (That was the article's headline in bold letters as well). This was her first reaction to certain reports which quoted her saying that "I have not seen myself as a South Indian actress. I am a Punjabi girl!" (Hyderabad Times, 24 June 2011). The words, "What the hell....", "Who the hell...", "How the hell..." have become so common in our present-day English language use - as common as 'and' and 'well'! When people use the word 'hell' this frequently and so casually they don't even remotely understand the horrific place hell is.
In the middle with great resolve would he arrive, when India's first wicket does fall! When the Indian team is in trouble, he will, 9 times out of 10, answer crisis' call! It is not for nothing that he is nicknamed the 'wall'! Plus, he's a world-record-holding catcher - from the grip of his safe hands, often does not slip, the cricket ball! Into the sunset, after 15-plus years of doing battling batting Rahul Sharad Dravid, is walking tall! He is definitely a deserving member in Indian Cricket Fame's Hall! It's true, when he bats the run-rate may, like a tortoise, crawl, Agreed, He may not like Sehwag, entertain the audience and the senses enthrall, But a player of Dravid's worth, you couldn't buy with a billion bucks in any shopping Mall! And when he does eventually retire, the hole in the Indian middle order will not be small!
While we talk about the "Wall" here let me introduce another who gave his life to build a wall, A wall that blocks your path to eternal hell, a wall that's really tall! He raised this wall by shedding his blood on the Cross and gaving for us his all! Jesus, God-in-flesh, is this wall-builder's name, and do you hear this his loving call? "Come to me, and life, with me in your boat, despite the storms, will be a ball!" But if you turn a deaf ear, to jump over this wall Jesus raised, into hell, you'll fall!
