Hindu Rituals
Narayan Nagbali
What is Narayan Nagbali:
Narayan Nagbali consists of two different rituals. Narayan bali is performed to get rid of ancestral curse (Pitru dosha /Pitru Shraap) while Nag bali is done to get rid of sin like killing snakes, specially Cobra which is worshipped in India. It can be performed only at Tryambakeshwar .
Narayan Bali ritual is performed to fulfill the unsatisfied desires of the ancestor’s souls which are stuck in the world and trouble their progeny. Narayan Bali is same as Hindu funeral. An artificial body mostly made of wheat flour is used. Mantras are used to invoke such souls who are having certain unfulfilled desires/wishes.
The ritual makes them possess the body and then the funeral frees them to other world.
Nagbali ritual is done to get rid of sin of killing Naga (Cobra). In this ritual also the funeral rite is performed on the body of snake made from wheat dough.
Narayan Nagbali is one of the main rituals performed at Tryambakeshwar. Ancient scriptures like Dharma Sindhu, which describes various religious rites, mentions that this particular ritual should be performed only at Tryambakeshwar. The references are found even in Skandh Purana and Padma Purana of this age-old tradition.

Christian brutally assaulted in Orissa
Alleged Hindu extremists on June 8 brutally attacked a Christian and threatened to kill him in Nuapada, Orissa.
Our correspondent Bishawzit Pani reported that about 6 Hindu extremists armed with dagger and sticks forcefully entered the house of Bhakta Bivar (19) while his parents were out for a prayer meeting.
The extremists verbally abused Bivar for his faith, started beating him, took 4 Bibles and forcefully dragged him to the Hindu temple.
They urged him to deny Jesus while they continued to beat him, forcing Prasad (food offered to the idols) to him and threatening to kill him and his parents if they do not convert to Hinduism.
They burned the Bibles inside the temple and later pulled the boy out to the road and forcefully clad him with saffron colour cloth, falsely announcing that he has returned to Hinduism. The extremists left after they threatened to kill him and his family if they continue to believe in Christ as they are not allowing the existence of Christianity in the region.
Police complaint was lodged and 5 Hindu extremists were arrested and sent to Phawani Patna jail on the next day.
Three Christians attacked in Orissa
On June 9, Hindu extremists allegedly from the Bajrang Dal accused three Christians of forceful conversion and attacked them in Deogarh, Sambalpur, Orissa.
Our correspondent Akhilesh Edgar reported that the incident took place when Pastor Lamuel Panaik , Pastor N.Philemon and Sudhir Kumar were invited by Biranchi Kistotta to celebrate the healing of his son whom Pastor Panaik had prayed for some few days back.
The celebration was attended by people from all faith as Kiskotta and his family was also from Hindu religion. At about 12:30 p.m., 7 angry extremists accompanied by media personnel suddenly came to the house and called Pastor Patnaik to come outside. When the pastor refused, the extremists rushed in and forcefully pulled out the three Christians and manhandled them.
The extremists accused the Christians of forceful conversion and beat up Sudhir Kumar and manhandled the two pastors. Police arrived on the spot and questioned the people whether forceful conversion was going on. The people came forward saying that the Christians were innocent. However, the police took the three Christians to the police station for safely measures and arranged for their trip back home at 10:30 p.m.
No police complaint was lodged as the Christians chose to forgive the attackers.
Pastor arrested in Karnataka
Several persecution incidents of late in Karnataka witness the Hindu extremists raising false allegations against the Christians on the slimmest of pretexts and get police to make hurried arrests.
In a recent incident, the state police arrested Pastor Vasanthe Kathedar from New India Church (NIC) after Hindu extremists from Sri Rame Sena (Lord Rama Army) attacked Pastor Vasanthe Kathedar and accused him of creating communal disharmony and disrupting the peace on June 9 in Okkere, Belgaum.
Our correspondent Rev. Noel Kotian, reported that the incident took place at the house of the NIC member where the Christians were having a prayer meeting. The pastor was assaulted by the extremists for about an hour.
The police arrived on the spot and took Pastor Kathedar to the station and then arrested him under Section 110 of the Indian Penal Code for punishment of abetment if person abetted does act with different intention from that of abettor.
Another Arrests in Karnataka
Karnataka police on June 7 arrested two Christian women after Hindu extremists allegedly from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh disrupted the Sunday worship meeting in Bovi Colony, Chickmagalur, Karnataka.
According to our correspondent, the extremists barged into the worship service of Jesus prayer team and accused Pastor Lalathamma and one church member Kadaur Devaki of creating communal disharmony and disrupting the peace.
Police who soon arrived on the spot arrested the two women under 295 (A) of the Indian Penal Code for deliberate and malicious acts to outrage religious feelings and were sent to Hassan Jail.
Kindly pray for peace and religious tolerance in Karnataka.

Catholic abuse scandal edges closer to pope
The problem is no longer an American aberration, and Catholics want to know what Pope Benedict knew when he was archbishop of Munich.
By Mitchell Landsberg and Henry Chu
March 27, 2010
Reporting from Los Angeles and London - First, it was an American problem. Then, an Irish problem. But as the scandal of child sexual abuse by Catholic priests has rocked continental Europe in recent weeks, observers inside and outside the church have begun to recognize that it is now very much a Vatican problem, one that is creeping ever closer to Pope Benedict XVI.
Victims of sex abuse to sue vatican
NEW revelations about Pope Benedict XVI’s alleged role in covering up accusations of sexual abuse by Catholic clergy have exposed the Vatican to the risk of lawsuits brought by victims around the world.
Mounting anger at the Catholic Church’s failure to act on predatory priests in the US, Europe and Mexico has plunged the papacy into an institutional crisis described by an American Catholic newspaper last week as “the largest in centuries”.
Persecution.
