| India and the world are sitting on a time bomb that goes by the name of AIDS.
Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. A condition for which presently there is no cure and with a prognosis of early death caused by a mass of infections which the body is unable to fight. As much as the physical suffering, the trauma caused by the realisation of the infection, the anticipation of death, the possibility of the family being orphaned, the alienation from one's society and often from one's own family makes life one of fear and desperation.
Millions have died from AIDS related ailments. A considerable part of the skilled and productive workforce of the country is being decimated. The damage caused to the nation's health, economy, the family and social structure can hardly be overestimated . |
