Involvements |
1.
Career Education, Guidance & Counselling (CEGC) |
The young people in
while at school are provided with CEGC to help them make informed
decisions about their education, training and career. The various
provisions of guidance provided are:- encouraging them to Know
God and His plan in their lives, discover who they are, what
they have in terms of gifts, talents potentials etc, know the
world of work get work experience, to prepare CV, and skills
of job searching; go through individual career interview, and
to make Career Guidance Action Plan (CGAP).
CEGC and its contribution to school and the Parents:
Parents are helped to guide their children realistically in the
areas of Education, training and career decisions, deal with
mismatch between career goals and potential examination results.
They are trained on child development tasks and how to manage
with the growing demands of adjustments through our special "Parents'
evening" sessions. CEG helps the school in raising the motivation
and examination performance of the students as they foresee the
subject-occupation relationship. It encourages the teachers to
gather informations relating to various occupations, making teaching
interesting, & creative. It broadens the horizon of the students
to create link between the education and labor market (job world).

| 2.
Proactive Career Services in Rural Community |
There are about 35
million young people below 1 7 years who are outside the preview
of formal schools. It is a proven fact that failure of Career
Guidance results in low economic growth and development. Hence
VCD has attempted to adapt CEG among the illiterates, semi-literate
children; young people; women, and long term unemployed. This
programme was initiated since 1993 in 14 villages among 4300
population in Kumjharia Panchayat in Orissa.

The
process of Proactive Career Guidance:
VCD introduced career services adapted with participatory
approach to rural development. The rural people were
facilitated to know themselves, their local & regional
resources, their rights & responsibilities. VCD started a Career Information
Center for all people to access informations on vacancies, job opportunities
and general informations on agriculture.

Multi-Skilling & Empowerment
Women, young people and the unemployed were given
training in income generation skills such as: Food preservation
(pickle making. preservation of raw fruits and
vegetables, etc) Floriculture (using the waste land the saving
groups
members earned a lot of profit).
Mushroom
Cultivation, Identifying herbs and making herbal medicines,
Rearing and nurturing of the domestic animals.
(Poultry, dairy, goatery etc) Health awareness: training
in basic first aid, mother and childcare, prevention
of common ailments. And mental and social health care,
Initiating
small business and entrepreneurial training e.g. women
groups got into purchase and sale of commonly used
garments and utilities by the rural people.

| 3.
Training in Leadership - Discipleship and Income Generation Skills |
This training is designed
to meet the needs of young people, unemployed, and outreach
workers who represent 85% of the rural population in Orissa
state. 50% of these live below the poverty line. There is also
spiritual-social-economic and political deprivation that is
caused due to poverty, lack of awareness, and oppression by
the caste hierarchy, and negative traditional heritage.
The Intervention for Transformation of such situation
is to help the participants is to know God in their personal
life,
prepare 'disciples' who can teach others to observe "all
commands" of God, develop leadership skills in each
participant during their residential training; provide a
multi-income generation
skills such as: Bamboo craft; pottery, pot painting, Bio-agricultural
practices, Mushroom cultivation etc which can be replicated
in their living context. Encourage every participant to become
self-reliant and get involved in the community as change
agents. 
Training Modules, Duration and Cost:
Professional trainers and experts in their respective fields
conduct all the training including the income generation
skills. There are five, major training modules. The period
of training ranges between 2 months to 6-month period at
a stretch. The cost per participant for all the training
ranges from rupees 1500 to 3500 per month. The variation
is due to number of training units and the cost per each
of the unit.

Bal Vikas - Vocational Education Programme |
There was a growing
burden for the holistic development and education of the poor
street children. Bal Vikas was initiated meet such growing
need since past 4 years. There are about 50 slum children who
have been benefiting through this innovative Vocationalised
training.
The children are becoming change agents in their own community.

| 5.
Counselling |
This programme was
initiated in response to the demand from the teachers for their
own psychological personality needs as well as for the children
with learning difficulties.
Our major emphasis is not only to find psychological solutions
to the manifested symptoms but also to deal with the root
causes. The individual cases are handled by the insight given
by God as well as professional Counselling procedures.
Clients are encouraged to relate to God and find solutions,
which are far beyond the temporal solution. Behavioral procedures
and techniques are used to deal with specific symptoms.
The various categories of clients who have received Counselling
have experienced healing some have come closure to God. Man
people learn to practice forgiveness, reconciliation and
restitution as the ways of overcoming problems and dealing
various issues.

| 6.
Teacher's Training |
VCD
has been involved in professional training with the teaching
faculty of about
150 schools and colleges in India. The major concern has
been to enable the teaching faculty to be challenged with
the need & importance
of subject-career link, improve the quality of teaching,
understanding and learning of the processes of developmental
stages of children
to integrate teaching with different styles of learning of
the students. This is for their own personal, professional
development. |
| 7.
Special Seminars, Workshops and Training for Students and Youth |
VCD has conducted many
special seminars and workshops for the young people in India
in the past years. The main aim is to impart the awareness
and skills necessary for understanding the meaning understanding
of VOCATION (i.e. Calling) and develops the Biblical perspective
to CAREERS, OOCUPATION, JOB, and WORK. It is to combine the
Biblical and Professional knowledge of Career Guidance applicable
in every ones live.
